Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that earthquake tremors were felt in the districts of Seoni, Balaghat, Barwani, Alirajpur, Chhindwara, Mandla, etc. recently. The highest intensity earthquake on the Richter scale was 4.3 in Seoni. Madhya Pradesh falls in quake zone 2 and 3, which is not a dangerous category. Zone 4 and 5 come under high risk category, where the intensity of earthquake is above 4.5 on the Richter scale. All the relief and rescue arrangements have been made by the government in all the earthquake prone areas. Be patient, there is no need to panic and all necessary precautions should be taken.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was holding a meeting of State Disaster Management in Mantralaya today. Chief Secretary Shri Iqbal Singh Bains, Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Rajesh Rajoura and all concerned officials were present in the meeting.
Difference in water level is a possible reason
In a review of the possible reasons for the recent earthquake in the state it was informed that the change in water level is the possible cause for earthquake this time. This time the earthquake that occurred in Seoni was of 4.3 magnitude, the epicentre of which was just below Seoni city.
Earthquake in state in the recent past
The earthquake that occurred in Madhya Pradesh on November 22 includes quake in Seoni city measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale, 2.4 in Katangi Balaghat, 1.8 in Kurai Seoni and 2.7 magnitude in Barghat Kevlari. Similarly, on November 7, a quake of 4.2 magnitude occurred near Barwani and Alirajpur, again near Seoni district on October 27, of 3.3 magnitude, the tremors of which were felt in Mandla and Balaghat, quake of 3.2 magnitude on October 31 in Chhindwara and of 3.5 magnitude near Seoni district.
Precautions to be taken during an earthquake
